TITLE: PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION AND COMPLETION OF 2 UNITS GROWTH CHAMBERS FOR MPOB

Project Summary:

This is project to study details on Oil palm plant more into plant physiology aspect. MPOB has built 2 Growth Chamber size 16ft W, 16ft D and 12ft H. This two Chambers has monitoring parameters for PAR (Light Intensity), Humidity, Temperature, and Wind Velocity.

Light system is created in chamber to imitating day/night solar and giving out enough luminance and PPFP (Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density) for plant growth consumption as well as making working area visible.

The standard lighting for artificial fluorescent is a mixed array of fluorescent and incandescent light. They provided blue and red region of lights’ wavelength. Blue region is most important in photosynthesis, followed by red region. Plants stay short, stocky and leafy under blue. Meanwhile under red region, plant stretch, flower or fruit at early of red.

The combinations also produce a broader spectral range which is essential to different type of plant. Various plant functions respond to different spectral bands of light with different efficiencies by their own chlorophyll and pigment. Because various plant have various absorption of wavelength and action spectrum. A level of light intensity ranged 80-120 Wm-2 is maintained to provide visible light (390-700 nanometers).Note that, intensity of light can be varied manually by switch on or off at control panel.
